I get asked this question a lot... "So Tony... are you a full time model?" Never entirely sure how to answer this question, so I figured I'd address it here.
What Modeling Entails
On the real... I take what I 'pursue' in life seriously. For the last 3+ years, I've been modeling, so it's something I do take seriously. I go to castings and go-sees (fancy industry term for meeting a client in person) a handful of times a week and jobs... well it's hard to put a number on jobs per week or per month. And that's where the 'full-time' term gets tricky. There are weeks where I'll be booked for several jobs, sometimes on the same day... and there are weeks where there may only be only one or no jobs. If you define 'full-time' as a 40 hour week, that actually may apply.... some of the daily tasks that being a model entails:
- working out / staying in shape (see above photo)
- daily maintenance of the face
- haircuts
- writing this blog
- visiting my agency
- reading/sending emails to my agents (see above photo)
- traveling to castings/jobs
- waiting at castings
- jobs
- getting my nails done (jk, although I've had manicures for jobs more times than you would think)
When you add it all up... maybe it does equate to 40+ hours per week! So I guess I am a full-time model ha!
Outside of Modeling...
What also makes this question hard to answer is I have another life outside of modeling that I enjoy and do whenever I'm not doing that list from above. I run a web design company out of our office in Union Square in New York. Your next question might be "Oh sweet... then did your company design this website?" And the answer is no. Just kidding. Yes. Yes we did :)
Another passion of mine is entrepreneurship and BYOB. No not bring your own beer. Be your own boss. So you'll see posts about tech, entrepreneurship, and the likes on this blog from time to time. I, along with my business partner, also curate and manage a small entrepreneur/startup co-working space in Union Square where our company operates.
A snap of me pretending to be busy at work at the office. I was actually eating lunch, notice the contrast between the food-chaos on the desk and my dapper put-together attire. Brilliance captured by Frank Wang Photography.
So I guess the answer to this question will always begin with "Yes! But I also..." the underlying message being: "Yes I spend approx. 40 hours a week on modeling, but I'm also a designer and entrepreneur" Walaa!
